Bruce, Thanks for the imput. I run the tank almost dry every day. I wonder if the fuel petcock screen could be dirty due to all the tank fulls of gas I run through. I have had the float bowl off several times and it seems to be clean inside. I know that there are several jets inside the carb. Is there a jet for mid range throttle? I know the main jet is clear, it is still pretty new. When the bike was new, I had this same problem (worse actually), the bike would just suddenly at high or low speed stutter and not recover until it was shut off for a few minutes. I took it in under warranty but it would never sputter for the mechanic. They made me feel like I was crazy or something. After a few months it stopped doing it and later I made the exhuast and carb changes and I forgot about the problem. Now all of a sudden it seems to be re-occurring again. Not all the time, but this week its been bad. Sometimes I wonder if it is because I bought a 97 model in 1998. The bike must have sat on the showroom floor for about a year. Maybe dirt or sediment got into the tank way back then and now the petcock screen is dirty but that donsn't explain why the problem is intermitent. I don't know, right now it's still a mystery. Thank for the responses everyone. This is a great site.
